Rome, Open City
In the last days of World War II in 1944, Rome is a lawless city, with Nazi occupation on the wane and no true government or rules. The Nazis are closing in on one of the leaders of the Italian Resistance Giorgio Manfredi (Marcello Pagliero) who seeks help from Pina (Anna Magnani). Pina also enlists the aid of Don Pietro Pellegrini (Aldo Fabrizi), a priest, who knows the Nazis have grown desperate with rumors that the American forces are about to enter the city. Major Bergmann (Harry Feist), the leader of the German forces, becomes more obsessed to capture the resistance leaders and kill them. Only the ingenuity of the citizens of Rome can thwart the Nazi leader.
